President’s Message The November meeting is going to be fun. Don’t miss it! We will have a list of possible officers for 2008. Keep the Christmas Party on your calender. With the great weather we are having I hope all of you are out taking advantage of it. I know I am. See you all at the meeting.
Eldon Meeting Minutes The October 31 meeting was called to order at 7:15 by Eldon. Seventeen members and guests, including the night’s speaker, were present. The business meeting was brief: our horse show season was very successful with an increase in the number of kids showing. Website and newsletter look great. Announcements
- Board Meetings are open to the general membership and are the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 at the Plaza Southside Cafe.
- Susan Stanke, our Show Chairman for the 2007 season, has set the standard for our horse shows. She and the committee worked long and hard and the success of the four shows showed it. I am amazed at the turnout at the shows. People come because they know we are a “class act.” Susan deserves all our thanks and we recognized her in a small way at the end of the last show with a small token of the club’s appreciation. Northern New Mexico Horseman’s Association is what it is due to the dedication and volunteer work of people like Susan. On behalf of all our members “THANK YOU SO MUCH SUSAN.”
- The October Ridge Riders ride was to Aspen Vista in Santa Fe. Check out the trip you missed on the Ridge Riders page.
Calendar of Events Monthly meetings are held the last Wednesday of the month (excluding September and December) at the Plaza South Side Café, 3011 Cerrillos Rd. at 7 p.m. Speaker begins at 7:30 p.m. Good idea to get there by 6:30 if having dinner. For more info contact Eldon or Sandy.
November 17 – Ridge Riders trail ride to the Caja de Rio. We will meet at the grounds and go to the Buckman Well. From there we will ride to the Rio Grande overlook. It is a easy ride with good footing, about 3.5 hours round trip. Contact Matt at 424-0148 or guenthmn@yahoo.com November 28 – General Meeting Guest Speaker: Robert Holt, local farrier "In His Shoes: Hoof Care Show and Tell” – a slide show presentation tracking the care given to Robert’s clients – horses of all different types and disciplines around Santa Fe. For over 23 years Robert Holt has been fascinated with horses’ hooves. His work has led him to make startling discoveries about healing injuries, treating disease and keeping horses sound. Having done extensive research on equine locomotion, natural balance shoeing and a willingness to use cutting edge technology, Robert is a welcome sight every six weeks or so for both horse and rider. Lecture/slide presentation starts at 7:30. Horse-lovers welcome to join us at 6:30 for dinner. Email nnmha@earthlink.net or call 505-424-7592.

Other Equine Activities Be sure to check out our Other Show Dates webpage for other fun events to attend.
Would anybody be interested in taking part in a microchipping clinic? If there is enough interest, we would organize a session at our grounds and the Livestock Board and Vet will come and inject a grain-of-rice-sized microchip in the horse’s neck beneath the mane, and take photos for new/replacement hauling papers. If you already have hauling papers, the price is only $5.00 per horse; if you don’t have them, the cost is $35.00 per horse for the microchip and hauling papers. This is a great way to prove ownership of your equine should it get lost or stolen. Contact Trish Hug at trishhug@aol.com to sign up. The number of interested parties will determine if we have a session.
