Ball Ranch Allotment – May 16, 2010

On May 16, five riders met to cross San Felipe property and ride eight miles on the Ball Ranch BLM Allotment. We dropped into a narrow rocky wash, walled by impressive sandstone(?) formations, which then opened into a wide sandy arroyo bordered by rolling hills speckled with flowers. Several detours down smaller arroyos took us to a box canyon, to ground littered with petrified wood, and to a grassy bowl where we stopped for lunch. We even found a small marsh with water for the horses. The ride provided some adventurous terrain along with easy walking and trotting in deep sand. Thank you Gus, for this new riding location.
