August 23rd (Date Change) – Caja del Rio Endurance Ride
The Caja del Rio ride will be held August 23rd at the Headquarters well, just off CR62. The ride is a fundraiser for Caja trails and profits are contributed to the AERC Caja Trails Fund. The 2007 ride created a $1,000 contribution to the fund.

Last year the AERC obtained a $100,000 State Recreational Trails Program grant to fund a trail head that includes a permanent outhouse, shade ramada, parking, gravel work, and nice metal gates. We would like to submit another grant proposal after real progress is made on the existing work, but to do so, must have $5,000 in private party funds to match the $95,000 in governmental funds. There is so much more to do, not the least of which is removing the old derelict buildings. Profits from this year’s event will go into the trails fund again, enabling private party funds to be contributed to a new grant proposal.

For the actual ride, we still have planning to do, but will start all loops from base camp at the Headquarters well. It looks like we will do a 13-mile fun ride, a 30-mile limited distance ride, and a 50-mile endurance ride. The exact layout of the trails is in flux at the moment, but we are planning on using new trails with great views...trails that I can guarantee have not been ridden by the club. For those who do not plan to ride, we need volunteers for taking veterinary (heart rate) data on riders throughout the day, help with check in and registration, etc.

The New Mexico Chapter of the Equestrian Theater and Performing Arts Association
Equestrian Theater is an inclusive horse community, based on Respect and Support for both horses and riders. We promote good horsemanship, participation and fun. All breeds, disciplines, and experience levels are welcome to join us, novice to professional. We are a non-competitive group, motivated by personal achievement and group camaraderie.

We are serious riders creating a place between trail riding and competitive showing, entertaining ourselves and others on horseback, in creative and educational ways. Our troupes include Riding to Music, Medieval games, Reining, Garrocha, and a Military Cavalry Unit. While professional level riders will be performing at public events, our novice level members will be preparing for recitals held seasonally for family and friends. We meet monthly, locations changing to provide the opportunity to get our horses out to new surroundings, while providing support to riders, training help, and performance mentoring. And best of all, we celebrate fun and partnership with other like-minded riders.
