June 25 – NO MEETING
July 30 – General Meeting. Ruth Bourgeois from the Equine Spirit Sanctuary in Taos will speak to us about the sanctuary's programs. ESS began in 2005, but has recently moved to the facility previously used by Dr. Thal. They are working on starting a Therapeutic Riding Program this summer and also offer other clinics and programs with the emphasis to be on education and promoting responsible horse ownership, with an overall goal to reduce the need for horse rescue altogether.
August 27 – Lynn Clifford (MA, EAGALA II ) is a 3rd generation equestrian professional, former therapist and a pioneer in the field of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. Her holistic approach to mental and physical soundness for both horse and human supports optimal horse-human relationships. Join us for this educational talk on Emotional Centering in the Saddle™ and learn how you can improve your riding, from the inside out and the ground up!
September 24 – NO MEETING
October 29 – Doug Thal, DVM – Conformation basics as they relate to function – Dr. Thal will discuss the basics of conformation as it relates to lameness and performance. Many breed characteristics have deviated from what is most functional and compatible with soundness. It is important to recognize the basics of sound conformation.

About NNMHA
Horses are our passion. Without them we would maybe have a lot of time (and moola) to do something else, but most of us have already made the choice...love 'em and can't leave 'em. And there is one thing we have found out along the way...you can't do it all by yourself.
Over 50 years ago a group of horse lovers got together to form an association now known as Northern New Mexico Horsemen's Association. Thanks to the vision and dedicated hard work by a core group of really terrific folks, the facility off Rodeo Road (between the Rodeo Grounds and the Chavez Center) in Santa Fe is available for a wide range of Association activities. Every year the Association members have put on shows, led trail rides, given out scholarships, held clinics and play days.
Monthly meetings (last Wed of every month, 'cept Sept and Dec) are held at Plaza South Side Cafe on 3011 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe, two blocks south of Siler Rd, next to the Quality Inn. It's a great group to be part of.
Everyone is always welcome at NNMHA meetings or activities. Member or not. We like to think of NNMHA as an important resource of information and opportunity for connection throughout the horse community in Northern New Mexico. See below for membership benefits.
There are about as many ways to participate in NNMHA as you might imagine. By volunteering 2-3 days a year at the Association activities (and/or taking part in them) you get to make new friends, learn something new that will help you with your horse, get to show off your pride and joy in the show arena, and even...ride off into the sunset on one of our sponsored trail rides.
Membership Benefits — All members receive a monthly newsletter (either on-line or hard copy) detailing club meeting minutes, upcoming activities, classifieds, reports from the board members and input from members. Guest speakers are invited to the monthly meetings, depending on member interest. All members are welcome to use the Rodeo Road facility; the two large arenas, round pen, trailer, and receive discounts on stall rental (over 110 wooden stalls), clinics and show office fees. We also have a fun Xmas party and BBQ in the fall.
Membership Fees are set at a reasonable rate: Individual $20, Family $25 for the year.
